Communication Matters

Communication is important to me.

Whether it's standing on a picket line, speaking at a rally, advocating for workers' rights, or responding to breaking issues affecting our members, our union needs leaders who can confidently tell our story.

Over the years, I have been proud to represent members of the Prairie Region in numerous media interviews. From our historic strike to labour actions, rallies, public campaigns, and community events, I have had the opportunity to speak with reporters, explain complex issues, and ensure workers' voices are heard.

I never pass up the opportunity to tell our story. Every media interview is a chance to educate the public about the important work our members do, the challenges facing working people, and the vital public services Canadians rely on every day.

Strong communication is about being able to connect with people, explain why our work matters, and build public support for workers and our union. Our members deserve leaders who are ready to speak up. And I am ready.

But communication is just as important within our union as it is outside of it. Members deserve timely, clear, and meaningful information about the decisions being made, the challenges we face, and the victories we achieve together.

That means providing regular updates on bargaining, political action, and the work being done on behalf of members. It means expanding our social media reach, creating engaging and accessible content, hosting webinars and virtual town halls, increasing workplace visits, delivering consistent newsletters, and strengthening member-to-member outreach. Most importantly, it means creating opportunities for members to ask questions, share concerns, and have genuine conversations with their elected leadership. Communication should be a dialogue, not just an email.

When members know what their union is doing, how decisions are being made, and how they can get involved, they are more likely to participate, organize, and build the collective power that makes our union strong.
