Krysty Thomas lives and works on Treaty 7 territory, the traditional lands of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), which includes the Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika Nations.
She recognizes that the City of Lethbridge is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, and honours the many Indigenous Peoples who have cared for this land for generations.
Across the Prairie Region, Krysty acknowledges the territories encompassed by Treaties 1 through 10, including the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Oji-Cree, Cree, Dakota, Dene, Lakota, Nakota, Saulteaux, Assiniboine, Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), and Beaver (Dunne-za) peoples, as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
She honours their enduring connections to land, water, community, and culture, and commits to listening, learning, and working in partnership with Indigenous Peoples — past, present, and future — to advance truth, reconciliation, and respect.
Krysty also celebrates the diversity of all peoples who call Canada home — those whose ancestors arrived generations ago and those who are newcomers today. She believes that it is our shared heritage, inclusion, and respect for one another that make us proudly Canadian.
As an ally of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and a champion for human rights, equity, and inclusion, Krysty’s leadership is grounded in the belief that every person deserves dignity, respect, and the freedom to be who they are — in their workplaces and in their communities.
